Travel Tips

An unedited photo of sheer bliss!

On this page, and its sub pages, you'll find some practical & helpful tips for travel in general in areas such as eSims, data roaming, International credit cards (Wise Card), luggage & luggage trackers, phone calls, texting and more.

This came about because despite being very well travelled over my many years (including 4 migrations) I learnt a few good new tips for a long trip I did earlier in 2023. A trip that involved 17 flights, 17 beds, 2 car hires, 1 boat, and 1 train – all within 8 weeks!

I was asked by a few friends to put these tips in a blog, so this is it!

Below is also a Quick Tips list, and in sub pages you'll find some really great specific tips that can definitely make travel easier and cheaper!

Remember to check out the Blog page too!

Quick Travel Tips List

Going on holiday anywhere is an exciting and refreshing experience. Whether you're planning a quick break or a long holiday, in addition to the tips on the other pages, here are some basic tips to make your trip more enjoyable:

Plan in advance: Research your destination, make a checklist of things to do and see, and book accommodations and transportation well in advance to secure the best deals and availability.

Set a budget: Determine your budget for the trip and try to stick to it. Account for accommodation, transportation, meals, activities, and any additional expenses. It's always a good idea to have some extra funds for unexpected costs.

Pack wisely: Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly. Make a list of essential items such as clothes, toiletries, medications, travel documents, and electronics (*free list on **** page) . Avoid overpacking and leave room for souvenirs.

Inform your bank: If you're traveling internationally, notify your bank or credit card company about your travel plans. This ensures that your cards won't be blocked due to suspicious transactions, and you'll have access to funds while abroad.

Travel insurance: Consider getting travel insurance to protect yourself against unforeseen events such as trip cancellations, medical emergencies, or lost luggage. It's pretty much a must do now. Read the policy carefully and understand the coverage it provides.

Stay organized: Keep your travel documents, passport, tickets, and other important papers in a secure and easily accessible place. Make digital copies of important documents and store them online or in a cloud storage service.

Learn basic phrases: If you're traveling to a foreign country with a different language, learn a few basic phrases to help you communicate with locals. Simple greetings, thank you, and please can go a long way in making connections and showing respect.

Explore local culture: Immerse yourself in the local culture by trying local cuisine, visiting cultural sites, and participating in traditional activities. Be respectful of local customs and traditions.

Stay flexible: While it's good to have an itinerary, be open to spontaneous experiences and unexpected opportunities. Sometimes the best memories come from unplanned adventures.

Relax and enjoy: Remember, the purpose of a holiday is to relax and enjoy yourself! Take time to unwind, savour the experiences, and create lasting memories.

Be mindful of the environment: Travel responsibly by minimizing your impact on the environment. Respect local wildlife and ecosystems, dispose of waste properly, and choose sustainable travel options when available.

Stay safe: Prioritize your safety during your trip. Be aware of your surroundings, follow local laws and regulations, and take precautions to protect your belongings. Research the safety situation of your destination before you go.

Remember, each trip is unique, and everyone has different preferences. Adapt these tips to suit your specific needs and preferences, and make the most out of your holiday!

Phone Safety: Set your phone up for using biometrics. This means instead of using a password to access your phone, use Face ID or Fingerprint Authorisation instead. This way, if people are watching you open your phone, there is no risk of them seeing your passcode. This reduces your phone being the target of theft.
